One Sock Wonder

So knitting has occurred. Slowly but surely. Although I seem to be a one sock wonder as of late. I think at last count I had 4 single socks finished before a complete pair. But with spring has come a desire to clean up the impossibly messy knitting basket. And I've been on a sock yarn obsession as of late, so I thought I might want to start knitting with some of them. So I'll post my first of hopefully many completed socks over the next few months.

Along with my one sock wonder status, I seem to have developed a love of variegated green yarns. I'll blame my Irish (as in Notre Dame, not Ireland) for this love of Kelley green yarn. But unfortunately I'm beginning to realize that variegated green yarn often times will end up looking like camo...of which I am not in love. So here is my first completed project in months.

Flat Feet - Special Dye Lot

The first picture shows the full skein purchased. I knit from one end and loved that I did not have any knots/tangles to deal with...typical problem for me. Second picture shows the preblocked picture of the socks. So they were all still crinkly from knitting from the preknit flats.
















I still have a good chunk of the second flat left. Not sure whether I should try and knit another pair of shorter socks from the toe up or something else with the remainder. The second shows the post-blocked socks...still a little damp, but we needed some new knitting on the site.

Starting my second pair of Jaywalkers

This is mostly to show S how the blue batch of kool-aid dyed yarn looks like as I'm knitting.  Still have ways to go, not to mention the other foot.  I think I'm going try to find some cute kids sock patterns to use of the left overs.

Clapotis and Caolrimetries

I've been hard at work trying to complete some UFOs and finish knitting for others. I'm trying to focus this year on knitting for myself and not for deadlines. So, I spent the last month finishing off a Clapotis for my sister. I can't say that this is a pattern that I will make again. It was a bit monotonous for me, but did result in a pretty garment.

I've been running a lot lately, and training for a 10 mile race in May. So, my Calorimetry came in handy while running in the snow, ice and cold temperatures. It was so good, it resulted in making one for my sister, and one for our friend, A. A then requested two more for her cousins, and these were the result. The yarn in Cascade 220 Heathers that I won at the Stitch n Pitch Phillies game last year. I have enough left over to make another Turn a Square Hat for myself. I'm trading these two with A for a tin of her homemade cookies. Yum! That's about it for me. I'm sizing up my other UFOs and figuring out some projects that are easy tv knitting now that baseball season is upon us. I'll add more as there is more.

Birthday Cowl

I finally have a new project to post. I've had some issues with new proects lately...right project, wrong yarn...wrong project, right yarn. Finally had everything come together. I have enough scarves to clothe a small army, but I thought a Cowl might be good to wear when I don't want a huge scarf hanging down. And as I had purchased this very soft malabrigo to use with a skein of black malabrigo for the herringbone mittens, and it just wasn't work. The yarn looked dirty next to the black yarn. So I pulled it apart and decided to do a cowl. First knit in a long, long, long time that I cast on without having cast on multiple times. And didn't have to rip multiple rows at the same time. So cute, comfy, and can't wait to wear.

Weekend knitting

Spent the weekend trying to use up more of my stash.  Made a bit of a dent, but still only used up about 1.5 skeins of the Lily Sugar 'n Cream.

Don't have enough to make another one, but I might make a mini version.  

The pattern really is a quick knit.  I took apart the body once since I ran out of the 3 color variegated, so started with the 2 color one for about 12 rows and moved to the 3 color and back to the 2 color for the last 12 rows and the handle.  

I found this pattern on ravelry searching yarn types.  I actually found this a good way to use up my stash.

Pattern: Elisa's Nest Tote (free from Purlsoho.com)

Modifications: I casted on 45 instead of 41 to make it a bit wider.  plus the yarn substitution

Yarn: Lily Sugar 'n Cream (about 1.5 Skeins)

Needle: 5.7 mm for body and size 6 double point for the handle.

A New Hat

Well, this started out as a child's hat for our friends, whose son is turning one next month. I got gauge on this WW Hat pattern, but somehow the Lion Brand Woolease was not cooperating. It was so becoming way to large to fit a kid's head, and if I went to 7 inches before starting the decreases, it would have been too big for my head. So, I modified the pattern and stopped at 6 inches and then decreased. The hat's super comfy and will help me get through the last few cold weeks of running. I've started a new hat for our friends' baby. I should have that done this evening and ready for a post later in the week.

Did some quick knits over the weekend

I sat down and did some quick knits (nothing too interesting, so I won't post any pictures). I'm determined to use up some of my stash. Unfortunately, I tend to only buy a few skeins of yarn at at time, or have 1 skein left over from a project, so it's not that easy to use up my stash. This weekend, I got really productive (partly to put-off doing some work). I made a quick dish cloth like the one B made with the letter A. I didn't have any solid yarn, so it's hard to see the nice A. I think I'll try to make this bag I saw with the rest of my Lily Sugar n' Cream yarn, hopefully that will help me use up the last 2 skeins that I have.

I also made a simple ribbed hat for a friend. that used up about 1 Skein of old Lion's Brand sport weight I had lying around.

Found a lace cap pattern that I might try next weekend. I have a couple of cross country flights coming up, so should have time to do more knitting.
